Bicycle Insurance
So, have you even thought about bicycle insurance? Many people do not, and this is sad because so many of us have a good amount of money invested in our bicycles. There are several reasons as to why one should insure their bike, most are pretty obvious, but some I bet that you probably did not know about.
Those that do not own a car or do not want to own a car find quite a bit of joy in riding their bicycle to and from where they need to go. Bicycling is a great way to get around and it is good for your health as well. You can also avoid sitting in traffic all day long and taking forever to get to your destination.
Whatever you are using your bicycle for, whether commuting or just for fun, you need to have bicycle insurance. This is what will protect you if your bicycle is damaged or stolen. It will also protect you if you happen to cause harm to someone else while you are riding your bicycle.

The type of bicycle you ride does not matter, you still need to be covered. You could be riding a mountain bike, a road bike, or a BMX; you still need to be properly insured so that you are fully protected from anything that could happen to you. It could be the nicest and the newest bicycle or it could be an older bicycle that you are very comfortable with, either way you and your bicycle need to be protected.
You do have some things you have to think about before you choose a policy for your bike insurance needs. You should start by thinking about the type of riding you actually do. If all you do is ride your bike for fun on weekends, then you are going to want a different level of coverage compared to those that use their bicycle to commute to and from work, or even compete with their bicycles.
Many companies that insure bicycles will have a plan that is more suited for those that are not going to be competing. They will also have another option that is better for those that are going to be competing with their bicycles. You do not want to pay for coverages that you do not need, so make sure you get the right type of plan for your riding.
Another thing you will have to consider when you are choosing a policy for your bicycle insurance is whether or not you will be using your bicycle outside of the country. If you are planning to take it with you on holiday, then you will need to make sure your plan will cover you. Most insurance companies have an option that you can add to your insurance that will cover you for a certain amount of days each year while you are out of the country.
Getting bicycle insurance might seem a bit silly, but you want to be able to ride with the peace of mind in knowing that you are protected if something were to happen. You never know what the unexpected will happen and you will need to make a claim. If you do not have bike insurance you will not have the option to make a claim and you will be stuck dealing with the situation completely on your own.

The insurance companies make it very easy for you to pay for your policy to protect your bicycle. You can usually take out a policy and make a monthly payment, or if you prefer, you can make one payment each year. There is usually a discount given to those that pay on a yearly basis compared to a monthly basis. Depending on your policy it might be worth it to take advantage of the discount and pay on a yearly basis.
One of the best parts about having your bicycle insurance up to date is that you know you are protected. You also know that if they no longer make the model of bicycle you ride, and something does happen, then you will get what is called, “new for old replacement” This is basically where they will swap your bicycle out for one that is newer, but very similar in build and price range.
Being covered with bicycle insurance is very important because accidents happen every single day. The last thing you want is to be involved in some sort of an accident or to have your bicycle stolen from you with no coverage. You would lose your bicycle and if you hurt anybody you would be responsible for that as well.
